Revisiting YOUR WHY!
REVISITING YOUR WHY BRIDGES THE GAP BETWEEN YOUR INTEREST AND AUDIENCE. THIS IS A CRUCIAL STEP TO REDEFINING YOUR UNIQUE PASSIONS AND THE PURPOSEFUL BUSINESS YOU LOVE. WHILE ALSO ALIGNING AND ATTRACTING THE RIGHT AUDIENCE TO YOUR PROFESSIONAL PURSUITS.
The person who inspired my WHY is Simon Sinek, an incredible motivational speaker and author who founded the idea of “WHY” over a decade ago. His golden circle strategy helps organizations and individuals to get to the heart of why they do what they do and not what they sell—transforming how people and businesses communicate their visions. I love this idea and have applied it to many areas of my business and the services I provide, and I encourage you to find your WHY today.
I know you may have already explored Simon Sinek’s Why, as his methods have been around for some time now. However, it’s worth revisiting if you’re revamping your brand, pivoting the current business, or launching new services in a new direction. I would also suggest my “Discover your Career DNA” to further your clarity in these areas so you are able to sort through any fuzziness that could prevent you from moving forward.
My WHY Story: When I first ventured into the digital realm of brand strategy and web design years ago, I found myself struggling to communicate a clear direction and message for my business. The reason for this is that I was, at the time, a shoot-from-the-hip kinda girl, energized by the shiny new idea, that I’d jumped right in without a clearly defined path. This resulted in an enormous learning curve and ultimately left me unprepared for challenges because of a lack of direction and later mental fatigue. I will say I didn’t give up, and I kept learning and kept trying till I finally got it right for my business. This led me to create the C-DNA and utilize the WHY method, giving me clarity to pursue my professional aims with endless energy. By defining my passions and acknowledging my strengths and limitations, I discovered a clearer path for service, achieving a communication strategy that was aligned with my multi-passionate pursuits by clearly defining what my WHY stands for and the C-DNA that evidentially supported my findings.
Although I still value my shoot-from-the-hip trait, I’ve learned to harness that energy with a measured approach, exploring my C-DNA and WHY to see if the new idea aligns with my values. If an idea does align, only then do I take dedicated and consistent action to see it out.
Getting things “right” took years before I discovered and applied these tools, and I believe, in large part, was due to statements (like the one below) that I took in as my own without evidence.
Have you acquired popular statements as your own without knowing if there is actual evidence in your life or business that makes them true for you?
Such as: “To be a success, you have to focus on one thing.”
This statement work for some, which is great for them, and great for you if it works. But as a multi-passionate person, this was very hard for me because of my various interests and entrepreneurial spirit. I assumed that the “one thing” was only one industry, one product, or one service and that I simply couldn’t represent what I loved. It felt impossible to land on one thing and commit to that for the rest of my life.
What I’m saying is, I believe I would’ve been better served to hear, “Your multi-passions CAN be the one thing, bridge the gap of what that one thing is and focus on that.” And essentially, that’s what I’m encouraging you to do as well. Find the “bridge” that bridges the gap between your interests and audience and make that the one thing you focus on.
So, in summary, it all starts with your C-DNA and the WHY of what you want to do. Who you want to serve and how you want to show up. But most importantly, the passion behind it all that fuels you to get up every day and get after your big dreams. If you’re like me, and want a passion-based business, consider revisiting your WHY, drilling down your C-DNA, and finding the essence to create a company and a brand that fulfills you to your core. From these exercises, you can create a clear business model you love and communication strategies that resonate with your audience. Good luck and happy branding!
